PVR Card (1 Viewer)

I'm looking to add a PVR card to my mediacenter. I'm interested in the digital cards as right now I have a digital cable receiver. I see in Europe you have the options of using the digital cards, however I'm not sure if this will work in the states.

I live in San Diego, California and currently have Cox Communications for my digital cable. Does anyone know if there is a card I can get to watch my digital cable and bypass their receivers?
