PVR150 users - what codecs do you use (1 Viewer)

just checking to see if im using the best codecs for the job

Im running a Haupaugge PVR150 with the INtervideo non css codec for video and the AC3 audio codec

whats everyone else using ?

I have a PVR150MCE of which i use its S-Video Input from a Pay-TV STB. I also have a Dvico Fusion Plus for OTA Digital TV so the codecs need to work good for both types.

Best overall results for me are by using Nvidia PureVideo Decoder and AC3 Audio.

do you have to purchase the nvida codec and does that work ok with the ati radeon video cards ? or is the codec not reliant on the video card ?

I've used it with ATI cards. It works for any DxVA enabled card afaik.

It can make extra use of PureVideo hardware-assisted NVidia cards but doesnt require it - older Nvidia cards themselves dont have that technology built in, i think the 6xxx series and above do.

I think you can still get a 60 day trial version of the codec before forking out for it.

would there be much improvement in quality of picture and speed of the machine im using ?

i dont think the speed of your machine will be an issue and as for picture quality, it works best for me, but you really need to try it for yourself and see...

ok might give it a go - guess it wont hurt to try it.

I heard a lot about the Nvidia PureVideo codecs but didn't believe all the fuzz, I was happy with my Elecard codecs. Then I decided to try PureVideo and I can say it's a lot better than any codec I've tried before. It honestly rocks! It's sharp, the colors are vivid and I have no de-interlacing issues.

By the way, I'm using a PVR-150 MCE and a GeForce MX5200 hooked to a sdtv through s-video.

MPEG2Dec and MPEG/DTS/AC3 gives me good picture and sound quality for free.

PVR 150 and 350.

Anyone who bought/tried the NVidia codec: are you able to cast your comments on the difference between MPEG2Dec and the NVidia codec?

I see the cheapest version comes at 20$ already, so it isnt really THAT expensive...
