Have just setup an XP Pro SP3 system with all the right codecs to be able to play HD including MKV files.

At the moment whilst I set it up (and until I can afford it as well) I've only got the box connected via VGA to a 17" LCD display. In time I will connect the onboard HDMI to a suitable plasma TV.

Anyway when I play a MKV file using Media Player Classic (MPC) the quality and the depth of the picture is excellent. If I play the MKV file through MP it plays happily but the picture is far less pronounced and the colours not as deep.

Anybody got any suggestions please.

    Hi heyho (!!!)

    Some pointers:
Most probably this is due to the decoders being used. You can select what decoders to use for SD, HD and audio.
Most people tend to use PowerDVD (DXVA) or CoreAVC. You can also alter some VMR settings in setup.

MP uses VMR or EVR , while I believe that MPC use overlay -(which no longer can be used with MP)
