Just curios as to what settings and codecs people are using to view TV.
I have a Hauppauge HVR-4000 tuner which I'm quite happy with but would like to improve the image quality if possible.
The image itself isn't bad ~ it's very watchable ~ but in some areas the picture appears blurred, for example the grey 'More 4' image in the top left corner, and some parts of the image also.

I'm currently viewing TV with the FFDShow codec...

Any help would be appreciated... :D

in my case I am offloading all processing to my ati radeon 4550 using vector deinterlacing, denoise and edge enhancement (little sharpening) with small cpu usage watching either mpeg2 or mpeg4 HD channels.
I would reccomend this to everyone because upscaling is really good, and with a little edge enhancement the image is great on my 107cm full hd plasma screen.
for the codec I'm using cyberlink powerdvd 8 for SD and powerdvd 9 for HD channels and HD movies and it works great!
It doesn't matter if you have ATI or NVIDIA because they have same or very similar technologies under different names so they both can work trough same codec.
I STRONLGY suggest you look up SAF filters here on forum because they are a life changer :) follow the instructions and you'll be set up!
I used my onboard readeon 3200 first, but quickly discovered that standalone cheap ati 4550 is waaaay better in processing power for the video at full HD resolutions..
Hope my experience will help a little :)

I'd like to try if possible - what are your settings, and where are they??

BTW - I have no problems with codecs :)

you SHOULD use powerdvd codecs because they use full dxva - hardware acceleration unlike ffdshow (maybe latest do, i dont know but they didnt in the past) and similar ones..
The settings should be in your ati control panel if you are using ati under video opetions. you should set deinterlace from auto to manual and select vector deinterlace, set the edge enhancement and denoise in ati control panel too somewhere and set mediaportal to use powerdvd codecs with deinterlace setting set to best in MP configuration..
This way, all of the video processing will be done by graphic card and it looks great :)

ok, now I see from your specs that you have nvidia but everything is the same, you just have to enable best deinterlace offered in the control panel for your card..

I was very pleased with the NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder and not so impressed with PowerDVD. And I even run it on an ATi card. But this is of course just for TV.

It's an nVidia card but I found similar settings in the nVidia control panel. (I need to see how much % Edge Enhancement and Noise Reduction is needed)
I' also try switching to the nVidia Purevideo and the PowerDVD ones, once the GF has finished watching Neighbours!

    Women...
Don't they realise there's serious testing to be done? ;)

    I'll post my results...
