Question/help with my MP setup (1 Viewer)

hello all,

I've been using mediaportal for a while now. Solely for watching Divx movies, listening to music and occassionally surf the 'net. Now I want to get into recording a few TV shows to my HTPC. I have Dish Network with a DVR box. I talked to my resident HTPC guru here at the office and he helped me decipher some things.

Basically would the following work if implemented:
Video recording: svideo out from DVR to svideo-in of TV tuner card.
Audio recording: rca-audio-out from DVR to rca-audio-in of TV tuner card.
Viewing recorded shows: output through video card's DVI that's already connected to the TV.
Listening: speaker out on sound card connected to my home stereo receiver

Does this make sense to you guys?

My hardware:
Pentium 4 computer
GeForce 7600GS with S-Video out, VGA out, DVI out
Need to buy the TV Tuner card <-- It'll probably be a PVR-150 from Haupauge
DVR: Dish Network VIP-622 HD DVR Receiver

Hector,

I think the most simple solution for this will be a DVB-S (or DVB-S2) card. Connect your dish to it and watch, if the channels are free to air. If the channels aren't FTA then you will need a CI-module and CAM for using your smartcard.

Please search on this (or other) forums if somebody else wich is using the same dish network has got it running.
