okay well i have a few questions about this...
i have a modded xbox that i've been using lately as my media centre pc, but ive been finding that its power is far too limited to decode 720p content and upwards. Additionally H264 content also seemed to drop frames even at 480p.
My parents have replaced one of their computers at their workplace with a newer one, i can now have that pc.
the pc's specs after installing all new parts will be
Pentium D 2.8 ghz
512 mb ram
ATI Radeon 4350 graphics card
Gigabyte GT-PTV-TAF-RH-SA Hybrid TV Card (Standard digital + analogue)

my original plan was to install a stripped down version of xp and install xbmc and hook it up to myth tv backend but i read that it was annoying to set up
my qs are :
1. i know it says in the faq that its not suggested to use said stripped down versions, but can anyone provide a list of possible drivers/services that are required by mediaportal?
2. it doesn't say anywhere in the feature list about playing content on network shares, does this program have this functionality?
3. the reason i bought the graphics card was because it offered hardware acceleration (AVIVO), will my graphics card be able to decode video content using MediaPortal?
4. will my TV card be supported?
5. will my computer be able to handle 1080p video? if not what do you suggest?
6. does mediaportal support audio through hdmi out through the video card?

Thank you in advance, Jesse.

    Hi and welcome :)

    1. Have alook here (old thread, but might get you started). I still think a non-mod. XP (or best - Win7) is the way to go.
    2. Playback via network is supported. For those using TV (meaning most users), recordings are often stored in a (TV) server. SMB v2 (Vista +) is pref. for speed reasons (IIRC). Using a database view (tagged music, movies/series that have been mapped etc) might help if sluggish performance. In general, I don't understand ppl who don't use DB-views (meaning browsing files by filenames).
    3. Yes! Provided a DXVA codec, you'll offload your CPU - even when subs are included.
    4. I'm quite sure the digital part will work (provided BDA driver), but not sure if analogue will. If the analogue part has hardware encoding, it should work out-of-the-box, but typically hybrid cards don't.
    5. Yes! Do use a DXVA capable codec
    6. Yes.

    HTH :)
