I have been using Win 7 MCE to do all my recording and XBMC for other media. I would REALLY like an all in one solution. Until recently, I didn't want to use MP because of the UI and looks. Well, browsing the forums it looks like that area has picked up considerable steam! I downloaded 1.2.0 and am going to download StreamedMP to give it a go.

Anyways, everywhere I have read says that Shark 007 seems to be the best codec pack (minimal and non-invasive) for HTPC use. With it, I am able to play all my MKV and Flac's natively in Windows. It seems to work great besides the occasional settings issue with MCE 7 (it's Live TV is really sensitive to changes). I read that everyone on here recommends the SAF codec pack. I haven't heard about until browsing this forum. What is different or special about SAF? Is it just the minimal functions included that are already setup for use with MP so it's easy for users to work with? I apologize for the ignorance. I tried searching but just see post saying to use it "/thread" type stuff. I haven't read of what it actually does or what it comprises.

AW: Questions about SAF

SAF lets you play everything, no need for another codec pack.
Be sure to get the *Unlocked* Version (See PM).

Thanks for the PM. I will give it a try!

I have a question for a multiclient environment. Does this need to be installed on a standalone TV server as well? If you pull up the OSD or whatever on a client is the rendering done on the TV Server or on the client?
