    Hello,

Not a big problem but just wondering... What are the "correct" or suggested settings with this card, for watching liveTV (and HDTV).

I have had this card for a few months at most, and I have used the Catalyst 8.10 (with the hotfix for the HD4350), and the 8.12.

Right now, as I have PowerDVD7 installed, the MPEG-2 decoder is the Cyberlink Video/SP BD-HD Decoder (PDVD7.x), and I get identical results with the MPV decoder. For HDTV playback, I use the Cyberlink H.264/AVC Decoder (PDVD7.x), and the CPU use is about 20-25%, but the picture is a little bit jerky.

I tried the AVIVO package's ATI Decoders (same number as the Catalyst version), but I just get a black screen with those. I don't know if I forgot something, but in PowerDVD7, I selected to activate hardware acceleration. I am using EVR, Aero is enabled.

I tried the ATI registry tweaks, no difference. I feel something but I just can't figure out what. I can play BluRays, and 1080p files without problem, but LiveHDTV works with all decoders (CoreAVC, ffdshow, Cyberlink) but not with the ATI AVIVO ones.

    Any idea ?

    Lorenzo

for me it works fine when i set:
    • h264 decoder to PDVD 7.3 and HW-Decoding enabled
    • in Catalyst Deinterlacing: disable automatic and set Deinterlacing to adaptive (not higher)
    • disabled AERO

the HD4350 is not powerful enough to do Deinterlacing in motion or vector adaptive quality for 1080i mode.
    as Renderer i use EVR.

i hope i could help u, and sorry for my engish

While MP is playing, press 'shift and '1' together on the keyboard - this should overlay some rendering statistics on the screen (and a moving line), this is a good way to check if it's actually dropping frames.

Also, check the GPU utilisation in the Catalyst control panel - high-quality deinterlacing of HD is a heavy load on the shaders/stream processors, and combined with the background 3D rendering activity that MP generates it can tip it over the edge into dropping frames. As Andreas suggests, the quick fix for this is to force it to use a lower-quality deinterlacing mode.

The Avivo codecs don't seem to be that good - Cyberlink & MPC-HC H264 codecs are better.
