When i try to start a diashow mediaportal crashes.

I posted this when I used the 0.1.2 version as well.
I just looked a the NTFS permissions on the folders and that is set for the users to have only read acces. You could try to give the user modify acces on the team mediaportal folder. Through inheritance all the files will be updated. You should also do this for al your picture, music and recording folders.

I think I'll give it a try as well this weekend beacuse running as a standard users is much better for an almost always on pc.

I think the timeshift problem is that MP uses the DVR-MS system with the StreamBufferEngine (SBE) to record timeshifting. SBE files are considered protected system files by windows (for some weird reason) and as such only an administrator can modify them.

I wonder if this also affects Win MCE?

True, though, it is kind of bad that MP has to run as an admin, but I do think it's due to MS (hey, it's pretty easy to blame them for everything ;-) )

The hkey indicates mp is also writing in the registry and no supprise: you can set permissions on registry keys as well.
Big question of course wich registry keys.

Also did you only give read and write permission or modify permission?
You need modify to be able to delete files. Which is needed for time shifting.

There are two mediaportal keys in the registry:

For the first you should make the give the user temporarly admin rights, then start mediaportal.

After this, set the permissions for both keys to full control for users.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MediaPortal

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mediaportal

    Happy wathing TV!

    Thanks for that information.
i knew that its possible to give or deny write permission to the registry, but i didn't know that mp writes to registry.

i'll try to catch information on wich subtrees of registry mp is writing.
    do you know regmon? (www.sysinternals.com)
filemon is also a perfect program with wich you can see what file a program is reading or writing. if no permission is given filemon or regmon (same as filemon but for registry) tells you.

I gave full permission to registry (hkcu and hklm both software/mediaportal) and full permission to folders (filesystem) where mediaportal needs acces but it still wont work.

    any other idea?

No not any more, as for me it works now. But I only did a quick test with My Tv. Didn't try other areas.

I dowloaded the sourcecode and did a text search on the cs files for "hkey". That's how I found the registry keys. Maybe there are more availlable wich should be set.
