RC4: DVD navigation stopped working (1 Viewer)

Hello and thanks for great efforts, you are doing amazing job!

Still, I notificed something I had working on RC3. DVD navigation stopped working for me with or without "turn off DXVA" -option.

Using dvd navigator and NVIDIA decoder + european MCE.

ps. happy birthday mp :)

I am in the same situation (I believe).
DVD Navigator + NVidia codecs.
Navigation is still available but no items are highlighted when moving from one to another; is that what you meant?
Was working w/in RC3 using exactly same configuration.

Same problem for me. There is navigation, but it is not visible, only in the first screen the navigation is visible, if you navigate deeper in the menus, it is not visible.

not sure if it is the same problem:

- RC4 SVN23.4.
- beeing in TV, when I insert the DVD MP hangs completely and the TV picture freezes, I can't do anything using the remote
- when I then eject the DVD MP comes back with TV

Nothing is written in the log while the time MP is freezed. The logging goes on after the ejection of the DVD without any error message.

I can play self-burned DVD's with just a film on it. Bought DVD's (Harry Potter, Nemo, ...) don't work.

Hi, I have just install RC4, and I Got the same problem. Navigation is broken in RC4.

It worked fine in RC3.

    It looks like the Nvidia decoder will not work reliably with ATI cards and some (low end?) Nvidia cards.

    I also found that to get reliable navigation with the CyberLink decoder, I had to use a "little utility" that removed the CSS and Macrovison copy protection from the stream, before the CyberLink filter processed it.

    What's the name of the "little utility" - well, if I print it here, apparently I could put the forum at risk of prosecution (which I frankly find a little ridiculous) due to some weird law in Europe.... :?

    All I can suggest is that you need version 3.8.0 of this "little utility", it is free and it is available at www.free-codecs.com. I hope this information is not putting MediaPortal at risk.... :( ... I will delete it immediately, if I am contravening a law in Europe.

    Works fine in Meedio and WMP10. Never had a problem. Just seems to be Media Portal. Also doesnt work with WinDVD codecs on my system.

    EDIT: After a bit of playing with Meedio.
    The NVidia decoders work fine in VMR7, but not in VMR9. This is true on both my old ATI 9700 and my brand new ATI X1800.

    EDIT 2: In the latest CVS, changing line 308 in the source file g_player.cs to force MP to use the old VMR7 player "_player = new DVDPlayer();" fixes the navigation for the Nvidia codecs. I will compile a full release copy and test it properly tomorrow. Too tired now.

    EDIT 3: After a bit of testing, VMR7 does work with the Nvidia codecs, but does have a slightly higher CPU load and possibly a bit juddery on horizontal pans. Of course, as VMR7 mode has been removed as an option from the front end, you'll have to recompile the code yourselves.

    The actual fault lies firmly with ATI. Looking on Nvidia's website, they state that ATI have fixed juddery video as of catalyst 5.7, but they havn't/won't fix the navigation issues. Seeing as the two companies are in direct competition, I doubt they'll hurry to address it.

    For anyone using ATI Radeons (like me), i'd recommend you use PowerDVD 6 instead. The latest version works much better than the previous and is the ONLY codec I can get to work with both my ATI GPU and Nvidia SPDIF out. EVERY other codec pairing has failed on one or the other at the same time. Also, I havn't needed to use "the little utility" mentioned in the last post. Everything is working fine.

    PowerDVD seems slightly darker than Purevideo, so you might want to run a DVD with THX setup on it (Star Wars is a good one) and adjust your brightness levels on the TV.

    If anyone is interested in the failures of other codecs i've tried, they will follow.

    Intervideo WinDVD 6 and 7 - Video/navigation only works if DxVA is off, Audio never works. Mixing with any other codecs, results in a blank screen. I have applied the registry fixes to enable SPDIF, but only either get just 2 channel stereo or crackly noise. This was the same on my older Nvidia motherboard too.

    MPEG2DEC video - Roughly 1 out of 10 times when hitting a new chapter, that chapter is displayed as a black screen, no picture. Recovers when the next chapter is hit.

    DScaler - Video behaves in the same way as the Nvidia navigation problem. Audio simply doesn't work, just get 2 channel stereo out.

    MPEG/AC3/DTS/LPCM Audio - Works, but without a video option that works with it, is useless.

    In all cases, the log file reports no errors.
