Ok, looking to install Media Portal onto a machine at work...the machine currently runs TV Scheduler Pro but they would like to use the same program to record Foxtel and would also like a guide to schedule it all...

The machine has 2xDVICO DVB-T Tuners (not sure the expect model...not dual, not hybrid..maybe the Lite or the Plus?) and a Haaupage PVR-150.
Hoping to use the 150 to record the Foxtel. Apparently this came with a IR Blaster which i am in the process of trying to find.

I think i've also found a program on these forums which will do FTA TV + Foxtel guide...just need to look into that a bit more...

This machine will be used purely for recording, we have a ClickView server which we upload the recorded shows to and edit them.

So, firstly, do you think it will work? (especially the scheduling of Foxtel) i've never used Media Portal, but have 2 VMC machines at home...

Secondly, what format does MP record to? MPG, AVI, DVRMS?

any suggestions in regards to the setup of the system? am trying to keep it as simple as possible.

One last thing, i remember reading on the site that MP does not support running as a Process...obvisouly this the official word...is there anything unoffical i can do? we run a domain environment and may end up having multible staff members using the computer which will log each other off and possible close a scheduled recording, etc.

theres plenty of information in the Forum about MP and Foxtel. The guide determines the scheduling and as you point out there are several solutions here for that.

the recording format is .TS (Transport Stream?)

historically MP has been also able to record in MPG format but this capacity has been disabled in recent builds.

ok then...is there an easy way to convert TS files to AVI/MPG? i've never used them before...currently the machine records as DVRMS and we use Crunchie to convert to AVIs...

will have a look around :D

.TS is just MPEG2 in another container with mp2 (i think) audio. A direct conversion to something you can use should be straight forward.
