I recorded a show on BBC1, a channel which I never have any major problems receiving.

When I tried to play it back, it was mostly fine except at a couple of points the picture froze whilst the audio skipped and continued playing. It's hard to say how much was missing each time, but it was probably about 5 seconds. Repeated attempts to play showed these to be permanent gaps in the recordings, not playback glitches.

You either suffered from bad signal at that time, or your PC HDD was maxed out and could not record teh stream properly.

I'm not convinced by that I'm afraid because a) I can't recall even seeing any breakup on BBC1 and on the channels where the signal is weaker, I've seen breakup, but never a 5 second or so jump. Indeed it would be impossible for a Live signal to jump forward 5 seconds (or at all) and b) my PC is a clean new build HTPC with nothing much running other than MP and certainly nothing that would tax the HD.

So it seems more likely that for some reason MP messed up the recording or, if there was some interference, that it copes badly with it when recording, resulting in these strange jumps which wouldn't occur with a Live stream.
