Hi everyone.
This is my first post so please correct me if I made something wrong.

Problem:
When I try to enter a network drive as a recordings folder. Mediaportal displays the following error message: "Unable to start Timeshifting, Unable to add StreamBufferSink filter".
It is creating the "card1" and "card2" folders for the timeshifting so I don't think it a rights problem.
When I set it up to record on a local drive there is no problem.
I have started a thread in the www.team-mediaportal.com forum under general support and I found out that there are atleast 2 other ppl experiencing the same problem. I'm using Windows 2003 server as operating system for the network drive but I tried it on several shares on XP machines with no luck. Flokel is experiencing the same problem with a samba share under linux.
Here is the error log:

I'll attach the full MP log.
I hope I have provided enough info.
Thx for the help

I experience a similiar problem as I am not able to record the ts-files on my network folder.
As a result I get a black screen when I'm trying to start ts or a recording.
With the programm dvbviewer I can save ts-files on the same folder without any problems
(so it shouldn't be a networking/server/samba related problem).

    Hi,
    Tested with MP 0.2RC4 + svn-05-23-2006--01-03
    Using a 13 GB share & mapped to drive Z & i have a 100 M line (ca. 12 % in use with Timeshift)
This was by using the analog part of HVR-1300 & this works well here (Timeshift & Recording).

    Regards
    Roy

    Concerning the svn versions:

I tried several ones(with clean install) without success,
atm I stick with the fresh RC4.

Strange thing is that the movie is recorded to that folder,
creating the ts-files simply fails -> black screen in mytv

I tried it with the SVN from yesterday it's the same.
I just want to note that after some testing I came to the conclusion that this happens only when the HTPC is in the domain. I tried it after windows reinstall in a workgroup and its working. But when I join the domain the same error appears, and after that even if I leave it, the same.Only after reinstallation of the windowsit starts working again.

this indicates that there is a rights/policy problem.

If you use Timeshift in MediaPortal, the SBE (StreamBufferEngine) is used.
The sbe is controled by the system.

If you start to record, this is done as "user".

this means that the system doesnt have the rights to write to the share.

Already tried to give the folder and its subdirectories all rights -> no success

Htpc is in the same workgroup as the server.

    Hi,
    :D for the fast answer.

I have attached a screenshot with the user rights configuration. So I just tried it and I have no problems creating or modifying files in this share when I'm logged on with user rights. The problem is also that even after I leave the domain and join a workgroup the problem persists, even reinstalling MP doesn't help.

    what i mean is that:
    • your user has the rights to write on your share, thats why you are able to record to your share
    • you system doesnt have the rights to write on the share and that is the reason why the StreamBufferEngine is not able to create the files on your share.

imo the only "workaround" is to give everyone write access on the share (server side).

would be nice if you could get into our IRC channel, so we can talk about it :)
