Recording one channel and watching another. Or watching two different channels at the same time from different clients does not work.

    Problem descriptions:

Digital using FireDTV problem: If I record one channel and try to watch another I can’t and the channel is listed as “unavailable” in channel list. Some channels that are used trough FireDTV I can watch, but most of them are listed as “unavailable”. I can watch some of my channels but far from all.

Analogue using Hauppauge PVR-150 problem: If I record one channel and try to watch another I can’t and the channel is listed as “unavailable” in channel list. When recording analogue channel I can’t watch any other analogue channels.

In both cases I can watch the channel I’m recording.

    Additional information about my setup.
I have one TV-server that are used a single seat in the living room (The detailed info on top of post). Two more TV-server clients (MediaPortal with TV-server plugin) in other places of the house.
I have searched the forums and found some additional info, I have tried this but did not help:
    - Startup TV server configuration
    - Go to TV Server
    - Select tuner (I did both mine)
    - and click on "Edit"
    - Change the CAM limit higher then 1 (I tested 2,3,4,5 and 14, no difference)

    Attaching logfile from TV-server

The channels have to be placed in the same mux/transponder...then it works.

this is a well known limitation of digital tv.

Thanks gibman, but I have no idea what that means for me, just four days ago I set up my first ever TV-server I actually got everything working thanks to the greak wiki and people like you!

I'm not familiar with mux/transponder and have no idea what that means... what do I need to do? Do I have to get some special hardware, a new CAM or is it just some setting I need to do in TV-server or the client?

Nope, if it is in blue on OSD by pressing select during live TV, it cannot be accessed, or conflict manager should bring it up in a normal TVGuide schedule as a conflict.

    Nothing extra to add.

Always worthwhile trying to find out what your broadcast Mux's are, just gives you a idea of what channels will record with others.

If you have dual tuners, really expands your options.

A mux or transponder can be seen as a cluster of channels that can be used at the same time for rec./viewing etc.

So in other words when u tune a channel, u lock the card to the mux that this specific channel is residing on.
Now u should be able to watch/record other channels on the same mux.

Thank you guys, now I get it.
My option is to get another firedtv, a cam and a card splitter thingie and hook it up to my tv server - then it will work for all channels.
