Is it possible to record a still running program from the beginning with information from the time-shift buffer?

Yes, just hit record now and a pop up appears.
Choose "record this show" and the part that's in timeshift will be included to the recording.
This only works, if you have EPG-data, otherwise MediaPortal doesn't know where the show starts and ends.

I have suggestion for this. Sometimes show starts earlier than it should according to EPG (especially web EPG). It will be good feature to show option after hit record like:
    1. Record this show
    2. Record until manual stop
    3. Record from beginning of the TS buffer until manual stop
    And maybe:
    4. Record this show from beginning of the TS buffer

I think that this is to heavy form implementation, but in same cases very useful.

@CyberSimian Sorry, I missed your last post. I ended up doing a clean install on the client and all is well now. It still doesn't let me go back in time when I change channels but it does continue operating from that point on. I'm ok with that. Thanks for your help! EDIT: I now downgraded the server (as I did with the client above)...

There is a conflict as you have said between WinTV ad MP TV. MP TV takes over the Hauppauge HVR-1265 card. I may be even getting more channels with it. The Titan TV worked great until last year. Now it will not run the scheduler. WinTV scheduler will let me program manually but I have to set a program for each day. If I try to set...

O Frabjous Joy! That seems to have done the trick. Thank you so much for your help and advice, CyberSimian. I hadn't thought of deleting the various folders, but I'll bear that in mind for any future disasters. Now I can record King & Conqueror on Sunday! Cheers Ralph
