Im new to MediaPortal so please go easy on me. My FusionHDTV-Pro Hybrid capture card has an adapter cable to allow for a composite input. I've got my Foxtel Digital STB connected to the card using a set of RCA cables. In the software provided with the card (FusionHDTV) I can select Composite as my input source and successfully record foxtel. However, I cant figure out how to get MediaPortal to record TV via this Composite input. Does anyone know if its possible, and how I might go about doing this? I had a play around in the Audio/Video Mapping tab of the TV - Recording section under the MediaPortal setup program, but didnt get anywhere with this.

Thanks guys

I don't believe that it is possible - the FusionHDTV-Pro Hybrid capture card relies on a software encoder to create the MPEG2 data, and to the best of my knowledge, nobody has managed to get this to work in MediaPortal ... :(

I am happy to be proved wrong, though ...

You will need to use a hardware encoding video capture card (like the Hauppauge ones) to be able to watch and record from your Foxtel STB with Mediaportal.

Several software encoders are supported indeed. But as the above poster already implied, software encoding, esp. hybrid cards can (and usually are) a pain in the ass when not using ONLY digital TV OR analog TV. If you decide to choose only 1 part, you're quite well off. If there wouldn't be the point "software encoding", which needs a lot of processor power and slows down the rest of MP and the whole windows.

So in THEORY it should work (if the analog part of your card is listed in capturecarddefinitions.xml), but you'd be better off with a cheap PVR-150 or a similar hardware encoding card.
