Hi,

While i am recording i observed it is taking around 1.5GB for 30 min show even i choose low quality. Is this normal? Is there any way that I can reduce the file size by changing any settings? I am not bothered about the quality.

thanks in advance

    the recording is an uncompressed mpeg respectivly in a DVR-MS container. so the file size is perfectly normal. for the qulaity setting: this only affects the size (and quality) if you have a card which supports this... e.g.some hauppauge PVR / hvr whatever cards... for others it has no effect as far as i know..

    if you want to make them smaller... i use AutoGK to compress them do Divx afterwards which results in a smaller size!

    I checked my hardware profile, it is showing "Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II (26xx)".

    Actually i do not want to spend time to compress because I just watch the recordings one or two times. Actually my problem is here in my computer i am running out of space (i am planning to buy one other hard drive soon), dialy i record around 3-4 hrs of video, after recording i am planning to run comskip automatically(so far no luck with comskip, still working on that).

    Could you please tell me how I can configure to take less space, if my card doesnt support then please give me some idea how i need to configure if any other card supports, then i can think about buying other one.

    Flipger, i am sorry for posting here, i will follow your suggession.

    Thanks guys.

    an easy way to reduce the size of your records with an Hauppauge pvrxxx is to change the Audio capture format in your driver settings.

    I use 44.1 KHz/192 Kbits/sec with good performnce/quality ratio.

    mpeg file have 2 components video and audio.

    44,1/192 is a common quality use for mp3 file and quite enough to listen TV.

    The audio stream is a significant part of the file size. It's a good way to reduce the file size without loosing video quality.

    Hi,

    sounds like you are having a PVR 150?

    For this card the quality settings should work. Did you enable them?
    Configure->Television->Capture Cards->Edit (PVR 150)->Quality
    Check "Use Quality control"

    These sizes should be comming;
    Low: ~439 MB / Hour
    Medium: ~1.5 GB / Hour
    High: ~3.5 GB / Hour

    If this does not work, you should uncheck the quality control and set your desired Bitrate by hand. E.g with the Hauppauge Tweak Tool.

    Yes, this influences the quality of the live TV playback. Therefore I set "high" as standard and change it manually to "medium" for a scheduled recording.

    HTH, Flip.

    Thanks FlipGer, this information will help me.

    I will check to see how i can automate live show to high quality and recording to low/medium quality.
