Second time it's happened, MP is no longer responding but continues to play the Timeshift buffer as can hear audio. Where is the buffer stored so I can recover it to replay it?

That depends on the drive and folder you selected when you set up TV-Server.

Yes it's in \ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\TV Server\timeshifting. Figured it out..
