Im most likely going to use win7 as the os, but vista is a posibility. I havnt ordered the htpc parts yet, Im trying to iron everything out before I purchase parts.

Anyways.

I have a harmony 1100, I need to know what is the best reciever to get for win7/vista (vista I guess since win7 isnt officialy supported)

If I have to buy a remote/reciever and just toss the remote that is fine but im trying to keep it *fairly* cheap, I was looking at WMC remotes but I thought I read that un-official ones have lots of complications and I guess im having difficulty finding an official one via newegg/amazon.

Any help would be greatly apprechiated.

Thanks in advance.

You need an MCE remote receiver (USB). The reason I suggest this is because its the most straightforward option.

Your Harmony can emulate pretty much anything but MP does MCE 'out of the box' with minimal tweaking required, so thats definitely the easiest option Im aware of.

'official' means anything emulating toshiba or phillips (it needs to register as an 'ehome' device, not a 'General HID' when you plug it in). Most 'name brand' remotes do this. The generic ones are the el-cheapo's you buy on ebay for $9.95 that just pretend to be keyboards and they are utterly useless.

As I understand it, anything "windows Vista Certified" will meet this criterion.

something like THIS should do the trick

On the subject of the OS, I think Vista is available with free W7 upgrade coupon now that the release of W7 is imminent.

As far as MP goes, the RC coming out later this month or the current alpha are the most viable for W7. Previous (ie stable) builds have issues with it. I just mention this because it may be a few months before there's a stable (ie post-RC) build for W7
