Hi, everyone!

I'm new to the MP so don'b be too harsh on me if the question is stupid :)

I got it all working, movies, music, radio, etc.

Last thing I want to be able to do is turn computer on/off from the remote. Can this be done? Where should I start?
I have and IR/USB remote...

Thanks a lot for you answers...

First, to be gentle, if using TV, then let powerscheduler put pc to sleep after set time.

If not using TV, then just shut down, as it makes no difference at all to MP.

Another consideration might be Sleeptimer, this gently lets you watch\listen to what you like and then at a predetermined time by you, shuts down your pc, in whichever way you wish (standby\hibernate or shutdown)

Hope you get the gist :)

    Thanks, mate!

How about turning PC back ON after shutting it down?
Red button on remote works fine to turn PC OFF but doesn't seem to have any effect when I try to turn it ON

This isn't spcific to MP, but to HTPC's in general.

Most remote control products for PCs won't allow you to switch ON the PC, especially RS232 styled ones and USB ones. This is due to the fact that to switch ON a PC you need an input to do so, such as the POWER button or Wake On Lan message.

When your PC is OFF, there is no power going to your USB or Serial ports so there is no way they can wake the PC. Even if there was power on the ports, the PC isn't on to read the data from the IR receiver to determine what the "ON" command should actually do.

There are options for the more techno savvy though. The commercial options that have power ON/OFF integration for the remote control have a physical connection to the power switch. There are IR modules you can buy that will trigger an output when a learned IR code is received. These can be used to learn your power button, place inside the case and connect to the PC's power supply.

It can take a little to setup though and in the end, walking a few feet to push a button doesn't seem that hard.

Thanks for that info. I guess ON/OFF is not really an option then. How about putting PC to standby and waking up. Can this be done with the remote?

There are tuner cards that once connected into the PC power circuit, easy to do, allow turning PC on and off by remote control.

Just have to check their specifications.

Recommend way of putting MP to sleep is to us the powerscheduler plugin (this comes in 2 pieces), this allows MP to control your pc for recordings (powerscheduler plugin found under TVServer config) and stop your pc from shutting down whilst watching\listening with Mediaportal (powerscheduler client plugin, found at MP config.)

You may be able to change remote behaviour under the Windows OS power button setting, but not sure if your remote would support wakeup, but you do need to set your motherboard usb jumpers to +5vstandby, so there is constant power to the usb port that the irreceiver is plugged into.
