I really like what I have seen so far with MP and think I will use it over MCE 2005 from now on.

One thing I would like to be able to do, and so far have not found out how to, is remove items from the main menu.

For example at the moment, I don't intend to use the TV or DVD part. I just want a box that will sit in front of the TV and play music and video when I want. It will be networked to the PC upstairs so there are n oproblems gettig files onto it but my good lady gets cross when there are too many options. All I really want in the main menu is Music, Films and Pictures.

Sorry to hijack and sorry I can't help with your question but one thing that interests me as I've not had much interaction with Windows MCE is why do people rate Media Portal over it?

What is it that MP has that MCE doesn't?

I heard a rumour that MCE doesn't allow you to rip your DVDs to it, is that correct?

As far as I am concerned, MP is more flexible and user friendly. I have used MCE for a year or so now and have become sick and tired of the strange crashes and hangs. Yes it's slick and shiney but there are little things I want that it can't do. I have ripped a load of films using Nero recode (because of the speed it does it) and MCE will not show a thumbnail - MP will (or did last time I looked!). MCE is very fussy about hardware etc. and less flexible, but then I guess as a product that is being sold with little support, you don't want to make it too flexible as too many peole will break it.

There are a number of threads on here about the comparisons...

Now... Back to my question please .... :D

    Hi johngc,

start "Setup Mediaportal", go to plugins, right-click on the respective plugins (Play DVD and My TV) and uncheck "enable" (that will disable them).

    Thankyou,

I was sure I had checked every setting... Obviously not! I will learn to use my eyes in future!
