I'd second that!
I have a HD-compatible CRT, and while 1280x720 looks best on it in MP/when playing video, I would like it to switch back to 800x600 when exiting MP to Windows, as 1280x720 is too hard on the eyes.
I presume owners of 1920x1080 32" LCD screens would also benefit from that option.
Doing it with batch/script is not possible because I use MCE Standby Tool which starts the MP .exe

Old thread, but i also wondering about the same. Is it possible to add a prefix to the exe or something, like "C:\Program Files\Team Media Portal\MediaPortal\MediaPortal.exe /Resolution:1920x1080" or something?

I'd love this too! 1080 is great on the big screen TV but everything is a bit hard to read when you go back to windows.

For those of us watching broadcast (over-the-air) television, it would be very handy to have a signal strength meter readily...
I don't think so, because MP has no way of knowing at which timestamp the external player stopped playback.
Best way to achieve this would be to use an auto-resume feature in your external player itself. (MPC-HC can do that, I don't know about VLC)
