Synopsis::

I have spent so much time trying to find the answer myself but really need help now.

I can successfully put my XP laptop into standby using the small remote that came with the dvb adapter and Byremote's HIP programme but cannot seem to bring the laptop out of standby with the remote. Any key on the laptop works and I can also bring it out of standby by clicking a button on an attached usb wireless mouse. I have the keyboard and mouse selected to "Bring the pc out of standby" within Device Manager but there are no other devices with the power management tab available.

Can anyone please offer any advice, I am so close to having this set up so eveyone in the family can easily use it.

I do ave a HP MCE remote on it's way from an ebay seller although it has no receiver as I was hoping to use the one built into the usb dvb adapter. Could this help if I can find the correct drivers?

Thanks

Thanks for replying.

The bios is very limited on the laptop. Nothing to change in it. I was hoping that since it can resume from a different usb device that it must be set up correctly.

The problem may be no +5v standby from the power supply when powered down.

Also a registry hack need to be done.

RUN regedit, scroll to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\USB, at that point right click on usb folder and create new DWORD, change the name to USBBIOSx and then close regedit, that should enable any usb device to power up pc.

This is done from memory, so anything else to add, please feel free to correct Guy's.

Unfortunately that registry value is already there.

I think the problem may be that the driver/drivers for the dvb adapters built in IR receiver do not support waking up from standby, hence the reason for not having a power management tab on the driver properties.

I still hope someone on here can come up with an answer though as it seems a waste of money to purchase a seperate IR receiver. I have tried using the windows xp ehome drivers on some of the HID devices within device manager but this makes no difference, although the receiver still works fine which makes me think the various drivers can't be much different from each other.

I have also set each of the usb root hubs to NOT power save.

thanks for the ideas so far, please keep them coming.

if you can wake up the pc, from a usb mouse, then other devices should work.

obviously the IR receiver is not powered up and unless support from HP can enable it, think your up the creek without a paddle.

I think it'll be more a case of sending Kworld an email to ask if they can suggest a driver that'll leave the dvb adapter powered up. I have noticed that the light on the adapter goes out when in standby.

Of couse one option is to carry around the wireless mouse to bring it out of standby, either that or lift the lid and press a button. (The laptop will be under the tv with it's tv out connected).

    Haven't given up yet though.

I am trying and trying all the time to no avail. With different hardware - Leadtek DTV2000H DVB-T card rmote control. The funny thing is if I don't start MP at all and use the card original software, I can put my PC to sleep (S3 or S4) without problems and then wake it up by using remote.
I have asked the same question here many times and seems like nobody had success in resolving the issue.
I do believe that when PC goes to sleep via MP it shuts down more things compare to the same process from the card.
I don't have much knowledge on the processes involved and don't have tools to debug what is going on here. I am thinking now to get MCE remote installed, but it seems like a waste to me as apart of the waking up problem all the rest works very reliable.
Hopefully one of the developers can notice this thread and give us some hints on what can be done here.

    fromaron:

It sounds like the original software (not mp) must prepare the IR device for standby. MP of course has no knowledge of the IR device standby preparation process so it doesn't do.

This is only a guess, but it rings true to me.

    Everyone:

Try running the MCE Standby tool and fiddling with it's options... Standby/Resume is always a pain in the butt for my PC, but with a bit of mucking about with the MCE Standby tool I can get it working... every pc is different I guess, so your results may vary.

    Best of luck,
