What if.... I wanted to deploy a Media Portal application on a HTPC in a rural area that has yet to get broadband internet?

Presumably it would mean no EPG or movie art. Any other notable problems?

If you can use a DVB-T TV tuner where you are you can download the EPG along with the TV signal - at least you can in the UK. You do not say where you are.

I guess the webEPG could work over dial up. Program the modem to dial at 5am or something and then tell the grabber to go to work at that time.
But yeah, as hbryce says, you should also get the TV guide via the digital tv signals.

As for the movie art, you can make your own by adding folder.jpg files to each directory.

    Hope this helps,
    Marcus,

If I understand correctly, your device is combination of DVB-C tuner, router and some web access to play the channels in PC web browser. You can sniff http comunication with the help of Wireshark or Fiddler to determine channel url which can be used to create IPTV channel in TV server. If the url is not static(changes dynamically)...

I tried setting the windows screensaver to power off the display on my MP1 HTPC but in fact it only blanks the screen ("no video signal") on the TV I suspect the AVR has something to do with that. Standard Windows behaviour is that if you open a file in File Explorer that has an application associated with it the file will be displayed in that application. This does not happen with MP2. If I try to open a .ts file (or any other video file type associated with Media Portal) rather than displaying the recording it merely opens...
