What if.... I wanted to deploy a Media Portal application on a HTPC in a rural area that has yet to get broadband internet?

Presumably it would mean no EPG or movie art. Any other notable problems?

If you can use a DVB-T TV tuner where you are you can download the EPG along with the TV signal - at least you can in the UK. You do not say where you are.

I guess the webEPG could work over dial up. Program the modem to dial at 5am or something and then tell the grabber to go to work at that time.
But yeah, as hbryce says, you should also get the TV guide via the digital tv signals.

As for the movie art, you can make your own by adding folder.jpg files to each directory.

    Hope this helps,
    Marcus,

When I tested MP 2.5 some months ago using TVE3.5, I found that "scan for channels" failed to find any channels when I selected a DVB-T2 tuner (a TBS 6284) :(, but succeeded when I used a DVB-T tuner (a Pinnacle 2000i) :). Obviously the Pinnacle found only those channels broadcast in DVB-T MUXes (in the UK we have both DVB-T MUXes and...

I have not experienced that myself, and I don't know of any reason why that might occur (but my knowledge of how TV Server works is not extensive). It is strange that you mention this because there are now four DVB-T channels in the UK that behave in the same way (this is new for the UK). I think that these might be some sort of...
