I belieeve that the LAvF splitter and audio codec are able to manage the specific HE-AAC format, but do not do AAC (whether its HE-ACC or standard AAC) re-encode to AC3 on the fly , which is required as no amplifier is capable of decoding AAC. Thus, adding the FFDshow postprocessor takes care of the reencode.
