With the new tv engine coming soon, is there any plans to add scheduled suspend/hibernation and wake ups?

I have heard about it, but I cannot find a place to try it without paying for it first, I have no problem paying for it if it works correctly.
The other issue is, I would have thought this would be a core function of a mediacenter, especially when electricity bills are always on the rise

ahh, i guess you confuse two things
1) PVR.sheduler... requieres a donation (5€ are enough i think)
and:
2) the powersheduler plugin. this is already integrated in mediaportal and therefore for free. you find it in configuration --> plugins --> process plugins.
activate and configure it. it explains itself i guess. it serves all that i need.

I have been quite thick on this one, I have look at the configuration, and it is working fine. Sorry for having a senior moment.

For the moment, I turned off the "Automatic channel logo update" in Settings (which somehow I had missed, I think because it wasn't an option previously), and the deleted everything in the Flat-default folder and populated it with my own logos. Hi, everytime my computer awakes for scheduled recordings, the monitor awake too and does not switch of during the whole recording...
