Thank you immensely for this free MediaPortal package!

I have successfully installed the package on 2 other PCs without problems, and it's working. (Not yet using the LAN server)

But on this 3rd PC, there was a snag, possibly caused by this PC falling just a tad short of the complete system requirements set. But the error message I got seemed totally off point. I would have liked to include the full set of logs and other diagnostics provided by the MP Watchdog, but that program ALSO crashed with some script error, when it was unable to open the file in MP's subfolder under "Application Data" named "MediaPortal.xml". And sure enough, there is no such file by that name present in the cited subfolder. So I cannot supply that stuff, sorry. [Edit: I'd be happy to collect and attach specific log files and readouts, as needed]

I WAS able to run the TV Server Config without a snag, and even completed a channel scan with good results.

I can launch MP Config, but when I hit the "OK" button to close it, I get some kind of scripting error, an unhandled exception for an object reference that fails to match an instance of that object. See attached file for the full error details.

Any help appreciated. [Edit: it's definitely not a problem with the ATI Wonder TV card I don't think, because I have one of those working fine through MediaPortal on another PC.]

TV Server Config NEVER asked me for the password. I wonder about that. That occurred on one of my other installs as well, but when I returned to relaunch Server Config later (on that other PC), it did ask for the password. 'Not sure if this pertains.

This current PC falls a tad short of the requirements by being too slow (1.6 GHz) and by having only a nVidia Geforce FX-5200 graphics card. [Late edit: No, apparently now the Geforce FX 5200 is considered sufficient. You changed that I think, as I recall the MP Requirements page specifying Geforce 6 Series or higher last time I read it!]

Here's some more detail. When I get into MP Config, the TV server name is missing, though it appeared OK in the TV Server Config. Also (maybe because of my systems' shortcomings), the H-264 decoder entry is missing, ie. blank. [Late edit: well I notice that parameter is likewise blank/missing on one of my other (successful) PC installs of MP, so I guess that isn't so relevant.]

Thank you.

Yo, important! I forgot to mention that I get an analogous scripting error when I launch MP Config; it's the same unhandled exception where an object reference fails to match an instance of the object. And that exception occurs when (I guess) the script is loading a bunch of its parameters rather than when it is attempting to save those parameters. I'll attach the additional error details.

The snag is not about missing any H-264 decoder, apparently.
Watchdog cannot produce a log because there's not yet a MediaPortal.xml.

I will soon try reinstalling the package. Not sure what causes this snag.

As an afterthought, I located MP's configuration log in an appropriate subfolder. It is likely cut off short because I forced quit of the app when the script error made it unable to exit cleanly saving all parameters. That log is attached hereto. Maybe it helps.

I've done all I can. I uninstalled the two modules and did a fresh install.

This time it DID ask for the password with that little intro dialog box, when I launched TV Server Config. Not sure why it didn't offer said dialog a couple of other times (as noted, in this thread).

But alas, no change! The unhandled exception lingers still, and no apparent way around it.

If this snag is directly due to my using a slightly outdated AGP card, then my earnest apologies to the team. I know I've updated everything else on the system as far as software goes, and installed Dvbfix. There is still some balk on the "3rd Party checks" screen about Port 0 being already bound. I find TCPView a little daunting (what line item should I be looking for??). I can't imagine a real problem involving contention over a port ZERO, bah! But I can pursue that if some guru here swears that that's the very difficulty I need to surmount in order to get into MP Configuration. Personally, I'm skeptical about the relevance of that.

Channels were scanned and logged successfully by the TV Server Config, so I must be doing something right.

I was mistaken about NVIDIA GEFORCE FX 5200 card falling short of MP requirements. (Were those specs lowered recently??)

I was mistaken about the absence of an H-264 decoder being unusual.

I am purposely running a slightly outdated version (2004) of the video card driver, because the UI is much better, I think.

I mentioned the Port 0 balk. But I think that is a non-issue because Windows Network Media Sharing Service shows as not installed anyway.

My PC has everything it should have for MP, according to my keen reckoning.

I just don't understand this then. There is the unhandled exception upon launching and leaving MP Config, and the TV Server name isn't carrying over from TV Server Config. I've supplied some error detail logs and such, but the full set still eludes.

I would just love to hear some chatter

Not that it will be much help to you, but I am experiencing this same problem now.

MP 1.1 has always worked whilst I used Vista x64 on my HTPC, today I decided to install W7 x64 on my HTPC and I keep getting this error only when I try to click ok our of the MP configuration. None of my hardware has been changed, it all worked previously, I can only assume it is some sort of compatibility problem. In saying that, I have successfully installed MP 1.1 on my parents HTPC which uses the same version of W7.

edit: I attached my error message, it looks the same as yours. FYI, this is on a clean install of MP 1.1

edit 2: Completely reformatted the system drive and started fresh, MP works fine now. I didn't really do anything different this time around when I installed it, I didn't bother copying over my database files this time though.

Thanks for that.

Is there anything there that might help me? I'm not going to reformat here, because it's much ado and I don't desperately need MP on this PC (BlazeDTV 2.5 is mine, bundled with one of my TV Tuner devices, and it works quite well with all tuners). What and where are the database files to which you refer and can you suggest a disposition of them for my experimenting purposes? MP has never been successfully run on this PC of mine so maybe there's no database yet. There is only the channel info from my successful scan running TV Server Config, is all. But I suppose it's something much deeper that causes this snag -- y'think?

The database files to which I refer to are those for my Moving Pictures and My TV Series plugins, I usually copy them over as to prevent having to rescan for them as it can take a while. In saying that, I don't see how that really would of caused the issue in the first place but I thought I would remove any sort of variable that may of caused this issue for me.

This time round I bit the bullet and started from scratch and it worked. I know formatting can be a pita but I honestly do not have enough knowledge in regards to MP to even know why this problem occurred in the first place. Hopefully a developer will stumble across this thread and be able to give you the explanation that I can't give.

I do think that this problem is deeper than that, I honestly don't know what happened the first time around.

Sorry that I can't be of more help to you.

Edit:

Just stumbled across this.

Could be your solution. Haha, wish I could of found that yesterday. Funny how it works, I was searching for something else in the forum and that happened to turn up, talk about a kick in the guts.
