Scroll through the tv guide differently (inverse) (1 Viewer)

Would it be possible to leave the selector stationary and roll the tv guide around in the background. My like a slot machine works. Beyond TV does this and it is very effective, the "roll" motion is nice too. (much the same way the main menu "rolls")

In fact it may be a good idea for the main menu as well...

Anyone not like/dislike this method of going through menus/guides.

I really like seeing a few lines ahead of what I am about to select. Not to mention not having stuff scroll instead of jump a line at a time. Note that in order for a system like this to work it needs to be fast and fluid, if that cant be done maybe page up/page down would be better. Defenitely not as cool though..

Wow, only 1 person like this idea? Is no one else annoyed by the way media portal navigates the guide??? Any comments good or bad are appreciated, I'm just trying to understand what people think...

I like the current way of navigating. IMHO it feels much better than the system described in the first post.

When the current home screen of MP was designed the first version also had this system and I felt it was really "unnatural" to use, at that point more people had the same feeling so the home screen became like it is now.

it really does depend on the size of the list of items you are looking through. If the list is really small then it does seem unnatural to have it scroll around a stationary selector.

The problem is the guide can be really large and I having used Beyond TV 3.5 it really shows the deficiency in the way MP does navigates the guide.

I'm all for stability first though. I still cant even figure out how the hell to get all the different codecs configured and playing right, just hoping there is a simpler way to handle this down the road...

Just use ffdshow, this is an astonishing one-for-all-codec. Beside that you just need an MPEG-2 codec (which comes with every Software-DVD-Player, MP-devs recommend 'Intervideo WinDVD6'). So no codec-messup at any time.
Or how would a mess look like, that only consists of two items? This would be a very philosophic physical question for all the chaos-scientists out there ;-)
