I was wondering, is there such a thing as an up-converting codecs/software to improve SD TV quality?

I have tried FFDshow's "sharpening" setting with some success.

It's all about the codec and the filters being used.

If you are running have your PC set to 1920x1080, then the SD is being upscalled anyway, it's just a case of getting the right settings to the best quality.

Have a look at the Stand Alone Filters that Hoborg put together. I think they configure your system for the best quality settings.

Thanks, I installed the SAF Beta 14 last night and it seems fine. I am just trying to heed the warnings and not to install unnecessary codecs - yet at the same time wondering if I have the best one. A case of the grass is greener on the other side.....

The FFDshow had settings available, not sure about the one "borrowed" from PowerDVD9 in SAF?

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ? MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback. If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo. I have...
