There is a thread called "Autoplay for SVCD/VCD" in the "Feature Requests" forum.

From the Forum Home page (https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/index.php) and possibly others as well, if I search for "VCD" or "vcd" I get the "No results found" message.

If I search for "SVCD" it finds the thread above, plus others.

Is there a reason it finds nothing for "VCD"? i.e. I have to search for >3 characters?

It makes relying on the search to identify whether or not a topic has been posted already impossible - it might be lying to me if it returns nothing, or it might not be returning the thread I'm interested in (although in the above example it returns nothing)...

I believe vBulletin uses MySQL for the database backend.

In MySQL you set the system variable "ft_min_word_len" for the maximum word length to use when generating full text indexes. It's likely that whomever configured the the MySQL server for this forum set the ft_min_word_len to 4. They will need to set that to 3 (or even 2. It does return better results, and doesn't consume that much resource), and re-build the full text indexes.

Before rebuilding the indexes, the MySQL admin should also check the MySQL default stopwords to see if it's filtering out any words that could be valuable in searches related to MediaPortal, and create a custom stopwords file if necessary.

(Note: I'm not very familiar with vBulletin, or its search function -- so take with appropriate sized serving of salt).

Also, I just discovered that "*VCD*" (sans quotes, of course...) finds some threads

It'd still be good to have "VCD" work, though (and/or maybe a note about the minimum search length on the search dropdown & page?

I had same problem the other day searching for LCD or VFD :-P So yes an index rebuild would be a good thing if possible ?

    exactly :)

but instead of changing this value i have switched to the vBulletin search engine.
which is not suffering of this (and other) limitation(s).

Now try to search for VCD again :D

    Note:
At this moment i am still building the search index, will take a few more minutes to finish.
