Hi,

I find that searching the guide is very slow; so slow in fact that my computer enters sleep mode before the results are returned (approx 10 mins!!!).
I'm using freesat, which has over 6,000 entries in the listings.

Is there anything I can do to improve the performance of this function?

I'm running RC3, but had the same problem for RC1 & 2.

Thanks

Richard.

Do you have channel logos? If so, you could try deleting them and see if that helps.

I have freeview, and with channel logos, the search (displaying the results actually) is much slower than without, but nowhere near 10 minutes to return results.

Can you please follow the guidelines and collect logs using debug mode. You have only attached one log and there are things like browsing music in here which are not related to your issue.

Please use debug mode and simply open up MP, browse guide and then close to collect logs.

Also make your sure your system specs are populated (in user control panel) and visible

    Thanks

Yesterday I asked "Do you have channel logos? If so, you could try deleting them and see if that helps."

I suspect that this might be the issue, so could you please confirm?

    Best wishes,

    Hi Mark,

Yes, I do have channel logos. I've just tested without the logos, and it took pretty much the same length of time to return results.

can you just delete the skin cache folder after removing the thumbs and see if that makes a difference?

I only have 2000 entries in my EPG, but search returns results almost instantly.

It is slower if there are a lot of search results. For example if you browse 'starts with' by letter, and there are a lot of shows beginning with a certain letter.

What are you typing in the 'search' box? I think we need more information in order to help you here. Exact steps to reproduce please.

Of course, it is possible that your database is corrupt. You could try a complete uninstall of all files, including your database, and see if a fresh install is better.

Also, do you have a multiseat setup with a server and client? If so, is there much difference between searching on server and client?

I'll test some of these ideas when I get home tonight. In the meantime:
Process: When I go to the search screen, it goes to a screen with a folder per genre. If I click on the top level folder that shows all programmes, then the whole thing goes slow. Once I get to the point that I can do a search, then the search itself is quite fast.

Setup: I am running a server with a single client.

This is normal, I would say.

The thing that is slow is rendering a list of 6000 items. This will always be slow, more so with channel logos. I don't see that there is anything that can be done about it.

The best thing to do is not to click on the top level folder. I always search in title view mode rather than genre.

Since you say that the actual search is fast, I am marking this as 'no bug'.
