Hi,

In August 2008 I decided to build my second HTPC.
With hardware from the first build and some new cards.

Reason for this second build was:
- My Antec fusion case was to big to fit my other equipment.
- Renew the video card so I can watch 1080p hardware accelerated.

After studing/reading (for a few weeks) different formus and websites about (building) HTPC's,
I figured out the Hardware and Software, within my goals.

Hardware
Case: Silverstone LC04 (Black)
Motherboard: MSI, K9AGM2-FIH (HD video/audio/network 1Gb integrated)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2,BE-2350, Socket AM2, Boxed
Cooling: Default AMD cooler (to be replaced later)
Memory: Kingston KVR800D2N5K2/2G, 2048 MB, DDR2, PC6400, 800 MHz, 2 x
Harddisk: Samsung Spinpoint T166, 320 GB, 7200 RPM, 16 MB, SATA II
CD/DVD player: Samsung SH-S203B,OEM, Black, Serial ATA150
Video card: ASUS Silent magic AEH 3650
Keyboard: Logitech diNovo Edge, Black, Silver, Retail
Display: Philips, Flat TV, 32PF7411

Software
OS: Windows XP (SP3)
Media software: MediaPortal 1 Rc3
Codex: I used what was delivered with hardware or software (for now)

All components I ordered via internet, and were delivered within one day at my home.
Except for the Case, It appeared to be not on stock so had to wait for that about 3 weeks.

Building up took about 4 hours. since the case is small it took some time to get all things fitted inside.
Also placing the cables so the would not interfear with the airflow in the cabinet took some time.

I added a few pictures, from:
- The build up
- First test enviorment
- Placing in living room (need to place some cables inside my wall system , then I will place photo's)

After using it for a month now I have these problems open:
- Audio does not work via the HDMI cable (it should be possible to do with this video card)
(Solved, needed a special ATi adapter DVI -> HDMI, it works)
- Running DVD's, or DVD images (Via PowerDVD) gives interlacing problems (strange did not have it with the on board video card)
Other video types play correctly
(Solved, used different codec to play, also sloved the dark screen when playing, with sttings in configuration)
- Case makes noise (need to buy some better quality coolers)
- When HD is doing lots of writes and reads it is noisy (directly mountend on case)
- High temperature in Case
(solved it by placing a fan on the side, but it generates extra noise)

Please let me know what you think of my system.

Yes now the driver is included in vga driver, but earlier don't.

Have you selected the HDMI audio device to be the default audio output?

Now this is intresting, does your friend get his audio via the DVI -> HDMI cable?
So no extra cabe for audio?

Yes done that also. Maybe the problem is in my DVI -> HDMI cable.
It looks fully wired, but I am not sure.
Does anyone know where to get a correct cable?

Try with the DVI/HDMI adaptor bundled with the card, and use a normal HDMI cable.

That one is a sapphire with hdmi built in, in asus website none of them have hdmi built in
    ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
so you have to use the hdmi adapter bundled

No DVI/HDMI adaptor was included in the package, according to Asus/Ati this is only nessecary for older cards
