    Hey guys,

I never used the DVD playback feature of MediaPortal before but I finally need it now. So I inserted a DVD into my drive and the movie started playing. Seeking works when I use "Fast Forward" or "Rewind" but when I use the "right key" or "left key" for seeking the movie MediaPortal executes the step size I chose and then doesn't respond to anything else afterwards anymore. The seeking bar remains on the display, I don't even see a mouse cursor anymore. I have to kill MediaPortal via TaskManager to regain control of my PC afterwards.

I tried following codecs / filters, all produce the same results:
    -ffdshow
    -dscaler
    -Cyberlink decoder
    -PDR

I also tried the "Turn of DxVA" checkbox without any success.

Is there a secret I don't know about regarding DVD playback ?

PS: logs don't show any error at all, the only entry made when I seek is
    Code:
    2007-12-09 14:23:24.328519 [Info.][MPMain]: g_Player loading seekstep config
    2007-12-09 14:23:26.812862 [Info.][MPMain]: DVDPlayer:Seek to 0:1:11
    2007-12-09 14:23:26.906611 [Info.][MPMain]: DVDPlayer:Seek to 0:1:11 done

So I am the only one with this problem ? Seriously, any answer would be appreciated... even if it is "dude stop bothering me, works fine over here".

    Hi,
Have seen this before, exactly the same but only with one dvd(even when copied to hdd) so i guessed it was something with it causing this to happen.
& from memory nothing else then "seek to" was in log & video frozen but sound continued.....

    Regards
    Roy

I seem to recall that I had this issue when I was using EVR on Windows XP.

In config->DirectShow Filter Control-> Enhanced Video Renderer Settings, see that the box is NOT checked.

(In my case, I had some codec issues. WMV would only play using EVR, but DVDs did not - feezing like you describe. Went back and re-did my codecs according to the guide floating around here, shut off EVR, and everything plays now.)

    Thanks for your help guys.

milhouse, disabling EVR made this problem disappear but page tearing bugs me if I do so. Unfortunately I have no other DVD I could test but I will get one asap.
I hope this whole EVR / Exclusive mode crap will vanish in MediaPortal 2

Tearing? Try forcing ON vsync in the NVidia 3D settings of NVidia Control Panel. Many have said this fixes jittery playback but MY experience is it has no effect. YMMV

I already tried this... besides testing various driver versions but nothing works except enabling exclusive mode or EVR. Since exclusive mode is even more buggy than EVR I am currently stuck with the latter.

Against tearing with DVDs the only setting what helped was VRM9 exclusive mode.
    Did not help at all:
    - turning vsync "always on" (in catalyst control center)
    - EVR (with NET 3.0 installed, VRM9 off or on at same time)

btw EVR did not help to correct black level of DVDs neither.

    Running XP SP2, ATi x1250 with Catalyst 7.12, AMD X2 BE-2400
