I have been searching this whole site for almost an hour and I can't find any guide on how to use MediaPortal with your satellite.

I have gone through the setup wizard and all it gives me are options for analog over the air, or cable TV. I can't find an option anywhere to capture from s-video or composite. Seriously people, there has got to be a tutorial somewhere on setting this up.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

first of all please post your support template so we can see your specs, e.g. your TV Card which should be supportet of course....

    Support Template

further: do you have a DVB-S card or do you want to use an external sat.receiver through your analogue TV cards inputs (question goes to both of you)

    for a DVB-S card:

MP configuration --> Television --> Capture Cards --> Add your TV card if not already done.

Then select this card and click on "edit" --> Autotune --> select your Satelite --> scan --> done.

For external receiver through Analgue TV-Card:

add your card as mentioned above if not already done. then go to

config-->television-->Tv Channels and click on "add SVHS/CVBS channels" --> done. Then you can take a look if it works in the first place...

if your card is not yet supported Click Here

understand that in this case a strong CPU and an installed MPegdecder like WinDVR is mandatory..

for any more help just post your specific problems and / or Error messages.

edit: Seqarching the Forum WILL definitly help.... (-; there are a lot of similar threads...

Synopsis:: - Problems getting my remote working, let alone actual video playback.

Alright I just bought a MCE remote and receiver (not the European one, because it was just to hard to get easily) and I can't get it to work. I'm sure it is just a plugin or something that I need so I'm not to worried about that. All I did was plug it in and use the driver that is hosted on your download page. I guess I sort of expected it to work after that.

My next issue is getting the satellite all rigged up. I have added those " SVHS/CVBS channels" but when I go to My TV and scroll through the channels I don't get anything. I have been using Dscaler for quite some time before I found MediaPortal and it has always worked fine.

And third would be getting a program guide, but lets work on one and two for now.

P.S. I have tried looking thing up, but this search feature is extremely hard to use. It seems to bring up all posts mentioning the given search words, without any form of priorities. Either way I find it extremely difficult to find anything.

Thank you guys so much for you help. One day someone will make a guide for this and we MediaPortal noobs will be setting up are satellites with ease.

I am hearing more and more that all you need to do to set up an MCE remote is to "install the rollup package". I attempted to do this but unfortunately I am only running SP1. I tried upgrading to SP2 once but my computer hates it and never finishes the install properly. Ahh, it's probably time for a reload... but it's so much work to get everything going again... you know how it is.

Anyway if I'm going through all that trouble I might as well install MCE and be done with it. Alas though, I do want to give MediaPortal a try, people seem to like it.

To get your sat working, you don't need to add the SVHS/CVBS channels. Start the MP setup, go to Television, select Channels (I think - I'm at work & going by memory). Select a channel & pick Edit. Select the External tab & set it for Tuned by an External STB; set the input to s-video (or composite) & type in the channel number. Do this for each & every channel.
If you're in North America, us Brad's zap2it plugin. I'm pretty sure it will do this for you automatically.
As for the remote, I have an MCE remote & use the MyBlaster plugin. It works pretty good. Sometimes it forgets to send the 1 number when switching to, say, 122, but going back to the main MP screen & then going back into My TV will get it working again.
