hi guys, i'm hoping some of you may be able to help me set up MP the way i'd like as looking through the wiki hasn't helped and the configuration tool confuses me.

i have switched to MP today from 7MC/MediaBrowser as my 7MC kept crashing and refused to play files any more. trying MP i found they all played fine, so MP is the way i plan to go from now on :)

my htpc is set up as follows:

C:\
E:\Blu-ray rips\ containing multiple mkv files all in their own folders
E:\DVD rips (folder1)\ containing multiple films ripped to TS folders

F:\DVD rips (folder2)\ containing multiple films ripped to TS folders

ideally i would like to have these three folders (and all sub-folders contained within) on two hdds to show in one library the way MediaBrowser did (you can have a library named Videos and it will show all content from however many folders to care to aim it at), yet all i am able to get MP to show is either the contents of drive E spread over two folders named as above or the "folder 2" folder from drive F. i can't seem to get it to show all together in one list.

i also have other folders on drive F that i would like to allocate their own button on the main screen (Concerts, Music Videos, Stand-up Comedy, TV Shows).

i think the easiest way to show what i mean is below. main libraries are in bold, the drives/sub-folders they point to are in italics. i would like the libraries to show all content from all folders in one list with only one click on the library name on the main page.

Videos
E:\Blu-ray rips\
E:\DVD rips (Folder 1)\
F:\DVD rips (Folder 2)\

Concerts
F:\Concert DVDs\
F:\Concert Blu-rays\

Comedy
F:\Comedy DVDs\
F:\Comedy Blu-rays\

you get the idea (i hope)

i also would like to set it up to use 'poster view' like 7MC does and scroll horizontally instead of vertically. are these things i want possible and if they are is it easy to set up?

any and all help is appreciated :)

Some of the popular skins (like streamedMP and x-factor and others) come with a basichome menu editor where you can totally create your own basichome menu. Such does not exist for the default Blue3(W) skin.

i'm having a bit of a problem importing files. they imported fine with the tv-series and moving pictures plugins, but i want to utilize the Videos section to include music & comedy concerts. so i have gone into the configuration tool and aimed the Videos Folder at F:\Videos and told it to scan the files into the Videos Database. it seems to spend a fair while scanning and then gives me the following...

i'm not sure what i'm meant to do with this. should i be renaming these files? if so, what am i supposed to rename them as? as i said, the Moving Pictures and TV-Series plug-ins had no problems at all with these sorts of files, so i don't see why MediaPortal should...

    can anyone help?

Hi Eezer, by looking at you conflict screen I can see that in many of your DVD rips is missing VIDEO_TS.IFO file which tells MP that folder is DVD folder. Without it, MP will not proceed scanning so there is one of the reasons for so many conflicts. Your folder naming is ok but without VIDEO_TS.IFO file MP will not continue to scan.

Next is, did you update your IMDB script (you can do it in config Videos-Video Database-Settings tab by using Update grabber scripts option) or you can download most recent one from here https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/submit-movie-info-grabbers-287/imdb-aka-script-87965/#post667117 just choose the right one for the MP version you have (1.2.x is for newest MP ALPHA version and above) and copy it to MP configuration folder (ie. for Win7 it's in C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\scripts\MovieInfo).

If you use Media Portal version 1.1.x you can expect some problems or strange results while scanning videos or not any result at all so that's is why My Videos was rewritten almost from beginning to the end and some of the results can be seen in MP 1.2.0 Alpha version (it's still in progress but in current SVN it works very well). I tested some of your titles (with added VIDEO_TS.IFO and didn't get any conflict at all -> screens are from 1.2.0 A+ MP Version).

If you have some more question be free to ask, but for 1.1. Media Portal version we can't do too much except to try new script and and to do proper DVD rip.

thanks for the reply Deda :)

i have checked all the folders involved and every single one contains the following files:

    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO

the folder also includes various VTS_01_XX.VOB files and a couple of XML files, so it's not not working because of a lack of IFO files. so i have ripped them properly.

i tried updating the script as you suggested but it didn't really help much. it found a few of the titles but for the most part didn't work. below is a screen shot of the files it still misses. you'll see it's different to the original because it found some.

i have noticed that all the IFO files have been assigned Windows Media Player as their default programme. could this cause problems? or do you think removing the VTS_01_0.IFO files from each individual folder will help (i'm not sure if it's a file i need to enable playback)?

edit: upon opening MediaPortal i see that the Videos folder is now populated by a whole bunch of files all called either "Direct From Brooklyn" or "Titler". playing them reveals them to be the files it has a problem with (Billy Connolly etc). short of going into the editor and physically changing/adding details for each and every file, is there any way round this?

edit 2: i thought i had it sussed there. i wondered what it was that was different about the rips it had found and noticed that they had been ripped as follows; F:\Videos\[name of dvd]\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.IFO. those which it had missed were all missing the VIDEO_TS folder! so i added video and audio TS folders to the first dozen and moved all the files into the video TS folder and rescanned them.

it didn't work perfectly, but it did enable MediaPortal to find 9 or the 12 i had changed.
