Setting up Composite In (RCA)? (1 Viewer)

Hi, I’ve got MediaPortal working pretty much perfectly, however I’ve been unable to figure out how to get Composite In (RCA type) working. Basically I have a cable set-top box that is directly connected to my TV. My PC box has a Aver Media TV tuner (hybrid), which I have working fine using DVB-T. Now it’s no issue switching between the two on the TV (from cable to free to air), but I’d like to-be able to record shows from my cable box using my PC box. My TV tuner has Composite In which works fine using Aver Media’s software (and other TV software such as DScaler), but I can’t find any option in MediaPortal that allows me to use Composite In as a channel. Is it possible? If so how can I do it?

BTW my cable box is for Foxtel if that changes anything, though I wouldn't think-so.

Phirax, what country are you using mediaportal in. If you are in the USA or Canada, the process of setting all your channels to composte imput is automated with the zap2it guide plugin that was created about a month and a half ago. If you are in another country, i'm a friad this process will have to be done manually for all channels even if all of your channels will be using composite imput. If you are not in the US or Canada, here is how to set up your channels open the mediaportal setup program by clicking start, all programs mediaportal, then click on setup. When the setup configuration app opens, click on the plus sign next to television and click on tv channels. Now for every channel you wnat to using on composite, click on that channel with your mouse and then click on edit. This will allow you to edit information about the channel such as name and number as well as a number of other settings including imput settings. When the channel settings screen comes up, click on hte external tab and click on the drop down window so you can indicate that the channel is an external one that is recieved by a set top box. Under that choose CVBS#1 to indicate that the channel is being recived through composite. I know it's a bit tedious but that is the only way I know how to set up imput for channels outside hte US and Canada. Now if you are in the US or Canada, you are lucky becaue the tv guide plugin automatically sets up chanel imput for you. If you are in teh US or Canada, go to mediaportal home page, click on downloads on the left side of hte page, then click on plugins, then click on epg then click zap2it epg plugin. Download the plugin and read the enclosed pdf file for instructions on how to install it and set it up. Once you install it, you will be able to access the plugin configuration by going to mediaportal configuration setup clicking on plugins and under process plugins, you should see zap2it epg client. right click on it to enable it which will allow you to acess it's configuration. Acess it's configuration and in advanced options, set external video imput for new channels to cvbs1 for composite. Hope this helps.

Hi, I'm afraid I live in Australia, zap2it plug-in will do me no good. I have tired adding a channel, and setting it to CVBS#1, however with no luck. There are no complaints or errors, however when i select that channel in MediaPortal nothing happens, it just continues to run the previous selected channel, but it does display the correct (aka CVBS#1) channels name. I know there is no problem with the signal since directly plugging into the TV works, and using other software works fine. My only guess would be that MediaPortals non standard way of doing things is causing a problem. I have also tried every other config/combination I can think of in the settings, still no luck. I'm surprised such basic functionality is such a nightmare to get working.

Did you ever work this out?

I have exactly the same issue, and was wondering if you ever managed to work it out.

Maybe it is a problem with the Composite input for the Avermedia card (I can't get it to work with the Dvico either...)

Have searched the forums, but does not appear as if anyone else has this problem, or maybe it just isn't that common?

Avermedia Card

I had a problem with the Avermedia Hybrid card usinf composite from my STB and coul not get it to show a picture. I ended up buying a Happauge PVR-150mce card and worked straight away once I defined my channels to CBS#1.

My only problem now is control of my STB.
