    I have an idea.
    Can you please navigate with regedit to the following key "SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall" and look if any of the following exist:

    {4B738773-EE07-413D-AFB7-BB0AB04A5488}
    {F7444E89-5BC0-497E-9650-E50539860DE0}
    {FD9FD453-1C0C-4EDA-AEE6-D7CF0E9951CA}
    {87819CFA-1786-484D-B0DE-10B5FBF2625D}
    MediaPortal 0.2.3.0 RC3

    If so can you take a screenshoot of the right side window with all the subkeys listed ?

    Thank you...

    Simone

    i installed windows completly new

    but i think chemellis post about old registry-entrys could be a reason for the errors.

    the setup worked well after a new windows-installation ;)

    This may sound crazy but were you using a firewall other than the one built into windows?

    This looks like the exact same problem I'm experiencing at my HTPC, will post those Screenshots later today.

    Kind Regards, Muldini

    Ok, well I had the crashing problem on a new instal of Rc1 as well. Seems that if you do an express or custom install and let MP "Add an exception to the windows firewall", which is an option enabled by default ,and if you have previously disabled the windows built in firewall feature the install will crash.

    With the "Custom" install unchecking the "Add exceptn..." option, the install completes without a hitch. Seems that the MP installer fails when trying to add this exception when the Windows Firewall is actually disabled. There hopefully will be a check put in the install logic for this soon.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi
    dont know if it same error as mine has gone away but sound like same problem, so i check my firewall settings (vista) as i had firewall turned off.

    Now i click on "turn firewall on/off " and got windows message saying service is not running do you want to turn it on, i click yes and firewall options to turn on/off opened then i was able to install with nps

    b4 this checking the firewall exceptions on or off didnt make any diff, still got same error but above fixed it

    if you need any more details, ss pm me

    thanks for mediaportal
