Hi, I installed the new TV server system and I have some comments and a suggestion.

The WONDERFUL thing about mediaportal is the way I can start with a standard XP box with regular hardware and I have mediaportal installed in 20 minutes. The key to this is the ability to download channels for my cable provider. Then webepg for the guide - set up a few folders and I am basically done. Regrettably it is not so simple in the new setup. Scanning for channels was a disaster. You get wrong names and the pictures are fuzzy. There is nothing like having the precise frequencies preset. I tried importing from the old system into the TV Server but the XML files are different. The idea is great and I like the way it saves as mpg. But it is too painful at the moment.

So my suggestion is please implement the Cable provider based download system from the current system to the TV Server system.

Thanks
bb

    Hi,

When I saw this title, I thought it might be something I've been meaning to suggest for a while.

So, for the "old" mediaportal, if you want to try an SVN update, you just run the installer and all is well. Yeah, I know it isn't necessarily the best to install one SVN on top of another, but it seems to work fine.

With the TV Engine 3.0, you have to stop the TV server, uninstall the TV server and TV plugin, then install the newer versions.

I know that this is beta software, so this isn't a moan, but it would be easier for the user/tester if this process could be automated. Can the TV engine installer check if the server is running, stop it if it is, then upgrade to the new version?

Again, I'm not moaning, because the developers owe me absolutely nothing, but testing a new SVN generally takes me over an hour by the time I've updated the server and client. Anything to streamline this process would make it easier to test, which in turn would be good for development.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Me too

When I saw the title I also thought - yeah, someone has finally asked about sorting out the install of tvserver.

Obviously I didn't want to sound like a moaner  but now elliotmc has broken the ice and moaned first, I'd like totally agree. I'm sure that this would encourage more people to upgrade and test on a more regular basis.

Personally, each morning I update the server and my laptop client, my daughter updates her own client from mediaportal svn and from the tvserver svn I download each day, my wife does the same, its not a problem, just long winded.

I must add, tvserver3 is brilliant, I love it and the way it works, you've built something great and you should all be very proud. Even if it takes another 6 months to speed up the install, I'll keep on testing and enjoying it.

mmm sorry if I jump into this tread but, from my understanding, this means that the only way to "upgrade" tvserver to a new release is to uninstall the old and install the new, am I right? If so, what about the tvserver configuration? I customized many channel names to be compatible with Logos and TVGuide, performing this operation will I lost all my settings?

    Thank you

if you don't delete the database then you shouldn't lose any settings - HOWEVER if you don't delete the database you might not get the new fixes or updates that the new release uses.

before un-installing you should also export your channel list so that you can just import it again.

Well, I just exported my tv channel (free and crypted) but when I try to import them, for free channel I don't see big issue, the problem raises with crypted channel. I noticed the symbol on the left side of the name is green insted of red and if I select the channel, I don't see nothing :(

    How can I fix it?

    Thx

    Hi,
You don't have to delete db for updating TVE3, if something it's changes (to db) it will automatically be deleted when installing/configuring TVE3 setup.
btw, it's pretty fast to uninstall & then install (if no changes to db it's required) new TVE3 pack, from a testers view ;)

    Regards
    Roy
