last update:

Summary: Small videocamera clips should also show in a slideshow, as done in the camera.

Description:

When you press a slide show in the digital camera, it shows not only the pictures, but also the video clips.
I (and my family) would really like to watch our photos and clips on the HTPC in the same manner.

The My Videos-part can be called to show the clips.

I have requested this before.

Thanks in advance, great work so far! /Niclas

I second this, this is useful. A lot of the video clips taken with my digital camera aren't really the best quality and are very short, so going through my videos to watch them when I'm going through my pictures seems like backtracking my steps.

Yes this would be very useful. It is really a pain to have to switch between my-movies and my-pictures all the time as most of these small videos are organised by date and/or theme.

Otherwise a fantastic interface. Thanks.

I Would Love to See This!

I think it's a very useful feature to have. "Everyone" has a digital camera these days, and takes video as well as stills. Most folks don't file camera captures by media type, they file by event.

Thanks!

I'd tell you what I'd love
and this all comes back to how people organise the media on their disks

Now what I'm suggesting would mean re-writing the GUI and merging all media databases
but I (personally) think it's the ideal solution
and I'm sure I'm not the first to suggest this merging, but anyway,

This would solve the
"I want to show short holiday clips from my digi-cam along side my still pictures in My Pictures"
and
"I want to view music videos along side the audio-only music in My Music"
threads

I'm merely putting thoughts on paper, here
and not expecting anyone to rush off and do it ;)
but really just looking for comments and suggestions from people

but....

Fully editable & customisable menu system

Eg.
In MP Config -> Home Screen -> have a button "Add New Menu"

New Menu options include:

"Name"
Text displayed on home screen

"Link to Folder"
Location on HDD that menu points to

"Media Types"
Checkboxes that you can select/de-select to filter various types of media
Images[ ]
Videos[ ]
Audio [ ]

"Add Sub-Menu"
Adds a child menu

In this way, you can build up your own menu system to suit how you organise your own media

My config, for example, would be

The good thing about this, is that you can still keep the initial installation settings as they are
by providing a "default" menu structure

What A Great Idea!!

In this way, you can build up your own menu system to suit how you organise your own media

When I first started reading your post i thought it sounded like a daft idea but after reading it its a really good idea and would provide a great amount of flexibility to each user and their own style!!

This would solve the video in photo album problem however might cause problems for people using thumbnails in their folders, unless the thumbnails properties can be made 'hidden' and still work??

lol

the hard bit is the merging of the (at the moment, seperate) databases into one global "media" database serving pics, audio & video, and not having an impact on performance / ease of use
