Shrinking Recorded Programs (1 Viewer)

I have recently recorded a program using mediaportal, and am very pleased with the quality. The only draw back being the amount of space it takes up. So i have tried using the compress options found within media portal, i have successfully converted it to m-peg 2, but ideally would like to convert to div-X as this would mean a smaller file, whilst still having the quality. But whenever I try it it comes up with "Error" in the status. Does anyone know what I could do, or any other program I can use to get it into Div-X format.

Any ideas would be great.

You need to have a specific version of the Elecard codec installed to convert to xvid from within mediaportal. I'm not exactly sure what specific version it requires. From what I have read, the new tv engine will allow or at least be somewhat capable of this conversion without that codec as it will record straight to Mpeg 2. Short answer: not very simple right now, but hopefully soon.
