Hi All

I am a longtime MediaPortal user, what a fantastic bit of Free software! However, I have just taken out a Sky HD subscription and was wondering how I get my full subscription into MediaPortal?

I am aware that I will have a new white Sky card which is going to make this difficult and I will also possibly need a Dreambox, but if anyone can provide any further info, links or firsthand experience that would be great!!

Cheers!

This may be a little out of date, but some information here: Media Portal Satellite Setup Guide

Sky HD is transmitted using DVB-S2, so receiver cards will be more expensive. Unfortunately the company that made the very best DVB-S cards and CAM slots has gone bust. The FireDTV series were excellent and 100% supported under MediaPortal. Not all cards are as the CAM reader and other DVB-S features are not used in the standard BDA drivers, they are all manufacturer extensions that have to be coded specifically. It's all a real mess in this area just now, and not likely to improve any time soon I don't think.

There is obviously some interest in this, a dev must know how to create a plugin to allow the below setup to work?? It would obviously be adaptable for other services other than just UK Sky HD. Please register your interest!!
You can also set up a virtual linux card server using vmware and an omnikey 3121 USB card reader (cheaper than phoenix reader). You will find a tutorial here - How To Setup A Linux PC Card Server

If you're using DVBViewer google Hadu, it is a windows CCcam client and works pretty well, also works with MediaPortal (with MDapi plugin) I think.

Simply download vmware player (freeware) and follow the link to download an OS (I opted for ubuntu, as I'm familiar and prefer a GUI, if you're OK with command line input then opt for something like Clarkconnect or ubuntu server) download NewCS 1.67 and CCcam 2.11.

There are tutorials for installing CCcam on ubuntu that I found very helpful on another european cs site (find them with google) and you'll still need to update your card in the SkyHD box but this is far cheaper than a dreambox as server; I spent £7.50 for two card readers on well known auction site.

    Hi there,

There are several ways to get it working.... the trick is to ensure your card is being updated otherwise Sky will eventually block it.

As you have stated, local card reader, dreambox, the now discontinued FloppyDTV, are all options - some update - some don't

I use a Dreambox with NewCS and CCCam to view locally and act as the card server, then I use Hadu (or you could use AcamD) as a plugin on the HTPC.

    Works a treat :D

Is this possible then? From what I read you had to put it back in your Sky box every month??

Yes the devs probably do, but soft CAMs are specifically unsupported due to being pretty dodgy legally. Pretty sure CCcam used to trigger the swear filter on here at one point.
