I've used MediaPortal on my 27inch CRT television and things look relatively nice. The TV has SVideo input and my videos all look decent.

I'm looking at buying a widescreen HDTV which will run MediaPortal and am looking for some recommendations. I'm looking at the 37inch LCD from Phillips because it has PC input, but I am really not sure what else to look for.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for tvs or other things to think about when purchasing. Thanks in advance!

    i am also searching for one - if i may drop in (-;

    i slightly tend to a 42'' TV but i cant afford more then 1300 bucks [€] for it.

    im just not sure what is best suited for MP - regarding to the resolution i'd rather look @ a LCD but these are quite expensive if >37'' )-:

    you don't need a PC input, that's good if you are trying to do normal tasks like browse the internet and whatnot using your television. What you really should be looking for if you are going to spend a good amount of $ on a television is a HDMI input, 1080p (720p should get you by with a 37" though) and get yourself an HDMI video card if your computer can handle it.

    First: Note that a generally good flat-tv may not be an optimal HTPC/mediaportal-monitor. And vica versa!

    Second, check out these related threads:

    For more in-depth info, you need to read some forum posts and discussions. Note that "HTPC-users" often dont know the in-depth video specific issues, and video-philes often dont know in-depth PC issues.

    In addition to all kinds of technical data (such as resolution, dynamic range, practical viewing angle etc), ideally you need the following specs that are generally not understood by salespeople or magazines:
    1. DVI/HDMI input with support for HDCP decryption
    2. 1:1 pixel (ie no forced internal scaling/overscan)
    3. usable framerates. At least 50Hz and 60Hz, preferreably 24, 48 or 72Hz as well
    4. All of the above at the same time. Generally not the case (!)
