    Hi!

First of all I have to submit my big respect for all the developers who are engaged with this project. It's great that there are people out there who spend their free time programming the software and let persons like me use it for free! There are tons of plugins of which I would like to mention the Self Contained Web Server which is really nice for my webserver project I am running.

So the reason why I am posting this is because of some limitations in MediaPortal which I would like to discuss.

The first system I ran was XP 32 bit. It was really stable with MediaPortal. I just wanted to improve the picture quality and switch from VMR to EVR which caused me to switch to Vista. What a crap! I had so many issues concerning Vista (like my monitor getting black for 2 seconds randomely - no way to fix it. Seem to be buggy drivers from nVidia, really tried a lot...) that I tried switching to Win7. I know it isn't supported yet but I thought it could not be worse.

So I ran the installer of MP which is really user-friendly now. I like the automatic routines which save a lot of work. After selecting the right satellite and doing a channel scan I started MP the first time. Going to live TV. Getting a picture - and it freezes. After a few seconds I can try to switch it on again and - I don't know when - after a few tries it finally works.
Okay, I installed my X10 remote and pushed the button I assigned to start MP. What was that? Windows 7 Media Center?! It recognized my remote and with the button-push I started it. Okay, nice, give it a try. Some easy first steps for set up and go. Nice animations, TV works like a charme. And this is what made me thoughtful.
I wonder why MP uses DirectX and there are only some little animations, the channel list in the TV-mode is so unresponsive and so on. I thought it is no MP issue but the Media Center shows it can be different. I am no programmer but there are games like Quake which are 10+ years old and are smoother. Maybe the comparison is a bit unfair but this is what I don't understand.

I want you guys to get me back to the light side of the force. I'll try to get the problems with MP solved in the right sub-forums. But I need some predictions what will come to get MP smoother, nicer skinned with animations, more responsible and so on. I haven't tried the MP2-beta yet, maybe I should do so.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Why would you switch to vista for EVR when it works fine in XP ?

EVR in XP is always in software mode. Also it will have tearing as we aren't using DirectX exclusive mode in EVR (not needed on Vista. So in my opinion no one should ever use EVR under XP.

FWIW I couldn't get TV running for more than 2-3 seconds i W7 64-bit when EVR was selected, no matter what filter I tried, then I selected VMR9 and voila...it works. But this problem only started when I upgraded my 1.1.0 Alpha to latest SVN (not betal).

The fun part is that I had serious stutter when playing MKV-files under EVR (both with Alpha and SVN) but with VMR9 this was also fixed.

Which version did you install on W7?
