Hi all,

my overall experience with MP is a good one, lots of configuration but great results,
being a .NET developer, i'm waiting for the moment i'll have some time to help developing this great app!

now---> to the problem:
some .mkv and .avi files do not play, MP just flicker and goes about her business...
i thought it was a codec problem, but other players (like m2vplayer) plays the files with no problem.

i have win xp - sp3 with all microsoft's updates installed,
halli media splitter\ffdshow.

there are no log entries in windows EventLog.

i've used the watchdog and all i got at the error.log file is:
2009-01-27 10:38:42.484375 [ERROR][MPMain]: PlaylistPlayer: *** unable to play - H:\Igor\i-septic.mkv - skipping track!

after reading almost the entire mediaportal.log file, i have noticed a connection to the direct vob sub filter.
when i disable it, all problems go away..
i didn't have problems at earlier versions of MP,
is this a known bug in 1.0 final version?

what can i do about it?

Hi

If you figure out a sloution please post it. Been driving me crazy too. I have all 3 Matrix movies in .mkv format and first one plays fine in everything else except MP :( ALL i get is sound and alot of pixelation. The movie plays fine in WMP though.

I am using

MPEG2 Video decoder PDVD8
and MPC-video decoder for H 264
Instaled SAF codec pack only
There is no NERO installed.
Graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 3450
Catalyst Control Center Version 1201.1504 27008
Driver version 8.561.0.0
Skin is Streamed MP latest one
MP 1.0
WindowsXP Media Center Edition

thanks

i'll be sure to post the solution when i'll get it.

although my problem is different,
with me, it only happens when direct vob sub is loaded.

OK I did some other reading and I tried changing one option. I went to Video Renderer Settings and changed option to EVR mode. I am not to technical and have no idea about what the warning means for XP users. Seems to be playing fine now. Is using EVR mode a big deal? everything playing great now

When using VMR9 everything was checked and filtering mode was Gaussian Quad Filtering. Should I try differrent filtering maybe ?

thanks

mma02,

Same problem here.

It appears when I try to play a video without a subtitle file (.srt): DirectVobSub is (always) added to graph but it doesn't find a related srt and MP refuses to play the video.

If you create a valid srt file with same name of the video, it is played fine.

I'm not sure if this would help...

    mkvtoolnix-unicode-2.4.1-build20081207-44-setup

mkvtoolnix -- Matroska tools for Linux/Unix and Windows

but it does give the option to (very quickly) remove the dependence from the mkv file on a srt subtitle.

Install the above and then drop a mkv file onto the open applcation. You will see (IIRC) three parts to the file. The video, the sound and then the srt needed. Uncheck the srt option and then remux the file.

It is very quick to remux and might help you if the problem is related to needing an srt file..?

    Thanks Vimes,

But checking in mkvtoolnix, the mkv files have only two tracks: video and sound.

Looks like a MP or DirectVobSub config problem...

My advice is to try different codecs: ffdshow, mpc-hc's, etc. Is Haali installed? Xp users should use VMR and Vista users should use EVR!

Try changing the option in Haali splitter -> "auto load vsfilter" yes/no

Check if other post-processing filters are enabled in MP config under the videos section. Disable all and try adding one at a time to see which one is causing it.
