Background
I have been running a multi-seat media config for around 5 years. The system is based on Meedio (the old one). I have a ‘server’ that is on all the time, and two ‘slaves’ on as required.
The server..
Runs the main TV and has all media (Videos, Music, Photos, Family Video, Stored TV Recordings, current TV Recordings, TV Series, music videos). The server has 6 tuners and is used to for all recording, there are many ‘season’ tickets.
The primary ‘libraries’ or data bases are help on the server and scripts are used to extract details for loading to slave systems (ie I do not want to run fresh imports for each system)
Recorded TV can be accesses from all systems.
Slave (TV) used to watch live TV with its own dual tuner, recoded TV (local or server) movies, and other media)
Slave (Kitchen) used to play music, either from server or streamed radio.
Why have I written this… well I want to move from XP based PCs to Windows 7, to get a more reliable platform (I hope). Meedio does not seem to work well on Win 7, particularly Meedio TV. I have been playing with MP and have some questions with the aim of achieving a similar solution to what I currently have.
1) I notice that MP only provides one ‘Video’ item on the set-up. I need Movies, Home Video, TV Series and Stored Recoded TV. Can the Video plugin be ‘duplicated’ with other databases? Or do I need to use other plugins Moving Pictures for my Movies, Music Videos for music videos, MP-TVseries for TV series, Videos for Home Videos, but what for my TV recordings?
2) Assuming I do have the right plugins can I change the menus names and the order?
3) Once I have loaded the ‘Movie’ database (I have over 700 movies) can I ‘syncronise’ this data base to another instance of MP (i.e. server to slave). I would prefer not to share, well unless MP has all the locking issues resolved…
4) Not sure I am ready to have my system all share the servers TV tuners. If the server is ‘out’ I would like to watch TV on the slave. But I do want to be able to watch recorded TV, from the server on the slave. In Meedio I import the recoded TV data and it works. How would I do this with MP?
I had a good play with the system yesterday and I must say it looks very good, and I hope I can overcome the points above. I will probably then have even more questions.
Thanks
