There is no separate sortby option for albumartist, you should use the artist sort for this.
When artist sort is used in combination with the albumartist tag the items are automatically sorted on the albumartist name.

:D for your reply though i am confused

i use the albumartist to store the name of the artist of the album and the artist of the individualt track.

    example:
album = A Night At The Playboy Mansion
    albumartist = Dimitry Of Paris
    (track #1)artist = Bah Samba

using the default view of Album Artist, while 'Dimitry Of Paris' is listed, it also lists 'Bah Samba' - how can i limit the list to only display 'Dimitry Of Paris'?

    regards...

If all your music files are tagged correctly and 'Bah Samba' is only used as artist name than it should not be listed between the albumartists.
Maybe you can check your tags to make sure that 'Bah Samba' is never used as albumartist.
It is also important that the albumartist tag is filled in for every track of the album otherwise the artist tag will be used for albumartist as well.

I hope this will be of any help.

    hi Jan...

...big thank-you for your input :D

the 'Bah Sambba' is only listed in the 'Artist' field, however the file in question is m4a (an Apple format) and while i am able to specify the 'Album Artist' and 'Artist' separately using a tag application (Tag&Rename), the 'Artist' field is only accessible through Apple's iTunes.

thus as "officially" there is no 'Album Artist' field for the track, MediaPortal uses the 'Artist' field.

though i am unable to answer following:
    • where does Tag&Rename store and recall the 'Album Artist' info
    • how are other applications (WinAmp) able to distinguish between 'Album Artist' and 'Artist' field for the same file

    regards...

    Hi jC67,

Good to know the format you are using.

I took an m4a file without albumartist tag to see what is needed by the tagreader.
If I add a BAND tag to the file (I used Mp3tag) than it is correctly imported in the database.
So you need to add a BAND tag to your files and set it to 'Dimitry Of Paris' (the albumartist tag can be removed).
After this you have to rescan your music collection and all should be ok.
Let me know if this works.

    Regards,

    :D - Perfect!

after removing and reimporting all the files all is good.

thank you for your time and effort to help me resolve my enquiry (and my apology for not including the file type initially).

    regards...
