Sound plays but no video in vista (1 Viewer)

I am using Vista Ultimate 64 and found media centre just didn't do all the things I wanted. I had previously installed Media Portal on my laptop and I loved it.

The very first thing I did on Vista was try to install just the basic codecs that I would need. One at a time I looked at each of my videos with gspot and installed the latest versions of the necesary codec but no matter what I did I couldn't get any video to play in either 64bit or 32bit media player.

The next thing I did was search for vista codecs and came accross "Vista Codec Package v4.2.9" and "x64Components v1.0.3". Straight away I could play all my movies without a problem in Media Player and Media Centre.

But when I try and play anything in Media Portal the sound plays but the video is blank. I have tried every thing I can think of and I'm really desperate to start using it again so I don't have to get my fat ass off the couch.

Hey gunk,

I had this same problem on Vista even with the codec pack until I disabled multiple monitors. As soon as I disabled the second one, the video started. If you are running multiple monitors you might just try disabling one temporarily and seeing if it resolves the issue. If it does, it will at least let you know what exactly you need to troubleshoot.

I would try to duplicate the issue again but I decided to let Vista "mature" a little more so that machine has had XP reinstalled.
