After I moved a couple months ago, my MediaPortal HTPC sadly sat around collecting dust until I had some time to show it some love via an up/down grade (it had issues with MediaPortal crashing halfway through a movie and I was never quick enough with VNC to catch the dialog box):
Motherboard: Asus P2B-D (old: Asus P2B)
Processor: 2x Pentium 3 550MHz (old: 1xP3 650)
RAM: 1gb (old: 450mb)
It still uses the old Radeon 9250 w/ 128mb RAM (s-video directly onto back of TV), old SoundBlaster Live! (digital output into the coax jack on the back of my receiver) and the Packard Bell Fast Media remote receiver (which apparently doesn't mind sitting on a 25' RS232 extension cable, although I've ditched the PB remote and trained winLIRC to VCR on my universal remote). As with the old machine, anything that can't be done through the remote control I do over VNC. The machine also now lives in the basement on a shelf and I pass it's wires through the wall.
Video playback is completely flawless now, task manager shows MediaPortal gobbling up one CPU while Windows does whatever it is Windows does with the other.
I also attached some pictures (the white RG6 has an F->1/8" adapter on one end and an F->RCA on the other and carries the digital audio). It might not be the prettiest or the most powerful, but it does what I need and weighing in at $0, the price was right
