    Hello,

I don't get any 5.1 out with windows or from TV. With BluRay and DVD it does fine!

My Amplifier is conected via SPDIF and Stereo. If I select the SPDIF Device only the 2 front channels have output.

    What went wrong?

your setup is a bit fuzzy to me.
Do you have your pc conected to receiver over SPDIF? Or is it PC > TV > Receiver. If it is the latter, you wont get more than stereo from you receiver.
In mediaportal configuration.exe you can choose in "Directshow Filter Controle" > " MPC - MPA Decoder filter" between SPDIF and stereo. Have you done that already?

    Good luck :)

Which filters are you using for S/PDIF output? I've found AC3Filter to be the best for me.

I tested AC3, but went back to ffdshow. I attached some of config.

sorry, sure it wasn't all of the info someone needs to get a general view of my config...

The PC is directly conected over
SPDIF (digital orange of picture first Post)
    AND
    a stereo Cinch (analog green).

Reason: I want to normalize TV (with non DD signal) and with SPDIF passthrough isn't it possible.

In mediaportal configuration.exe you can choose in "Directshow Filter Controle" > " MPC - MPA Decoder filter" between SPDIF and stereo. Have you done that already?

Yes, I tried ffdshow, MPA and PowerDVD 7 & 9. All set to passthrough, but failed.

The most annoying thing is, that even the Test sound of realtek Manager fails and only sends signals to the both front channels. But if I watch a DVD/BluRay with PowerDVD DD/DTS do fine. Because of that I think it's more a Windows than a Mediaportal Problem.

    I also did install/reinstall KB888111 and KB835221.

Try to setup your speakers (second picture) to 2 speakers.. No 5.1. Then try..

    I did try:

    • after changing to "desktop stereo"
    • also realtek Manager was set to stereo
    • Test with realtek: No DD Sound, just simple stereo
    • Realtek change to 6 Channel: No DD, just 2 front speakers like before
    • check of windows sounds settings: has switched to 5.1

    :(

I think there is confusion about what SPDIF can do - it can carry stereo PCM or compressed DD(AC3)/DTS, it cannot carry 5.1 channel PCM (only HDMI can do that).

So the only way to get 5.1 over SPDIF is by sending AC3 or DTS, either as pass-though from the source or by encoding to 5.1 AC3 in real time from a 5.1 source - AC3 filter and FFDShow can both do this (and switch to pass-through automatically if the source is AC3 or DTS).

A few sound cards have 'DD Live' or 'DTS connect' - these can also do real-time encoding to AC3/DTS.

sorry, I don't know what you want to tell me.

I want AC3 (DD) / DTS passthrough (bitperfect) and set this option in ffdshow, but if I choose a TV Station with DD signal, only stereo comes from my receiver.

wow.. I didnt know it was possible to receive dolby digital through cable TV. I thought is was only dolby surround (upmixed stereo). :)
are you absolutely sure the source is dolby digital (5.1?)
