Watching digital OTA ATSC TV (recorded or live, both do the same) it will play really fast for a split-second and then back to normal for 5 to 10 seconds. The audio is perfect the whole time. Other than this annoying glitch, video and sound quality are outstanding. Hopefully someone has already solved this problem before. I'm sooo close to perfect HD recordings.

I've found that playing the recording (.ts file) in VLC, it plays perfectly. So that's good news that the recording itself is perfect. Playing in WMP outside of MP yields the same frequent skip. I suppose this is a codec issue then? Perhaps a moderator can move this to the codec forum or I can start a new thread there.

The other thing i found with a X2 processor with XP was installing the amd dual core optimizer stopped this happening for me, worth a try, does not break anything, reboot required for it to be fully active.

Sorry about the double post. I tried the dual core optimizer but no difference. I changed mpeg2 setting inside ffdshow to lib-something and WMP started using ffdshow video (icon appears in tray when starting the video) and that completely fixed it. But I can't seem to get MP to use ffdshow for video despite setting it that way for both Television and Movies and verifying the setting within MP gui.

    [edit:]
Found this thread in the codecs forum where someone is having the same problem getting MP to use ffdshow when playing .ts recordings.
